Built-in connector
PayPal connects to a Wix site as a third-party provider from the site dashboard (Accept Payments > Connect next to PayPal, sign in with a PayPal Business account) and Wix says it is available in over 200 countries. The connection is built and documented by Wix; PayPal's own help article only repeats the Wix-dashboard steps. Wix files PayPal under alternative payment methods, so it sits alongside whichever single card processor the site uses rather than replacing it.1

Capability status reflects the integration and documentation available at the time of verification, not necessarily every capability of the underlying gateway or platform.
There is no sandbox path on Wix. Wix refuses test or temporary provider credentials and its troubleshooting guide lists an account in test mode as a cause of the connection error, so the PayPal account you connect must be a live PayPal Business account with a confirmed email; PayPal Developer sandbox accounts and REST test credentials cannot be entered. For dry runs, preview checkout in the editor up to the payment step or enable a manual (offline) payment method; a completed order on a live site through PayPal is a real charge that you then refund from PayPal (Wix defers refund and payout questions to PayPal, and PayPal keeps the original fee on refund). What to assert: the site currency equals the PayPal account currency (mismatch declines), authorization-and-capture is OFF in checkout settings (turning it on removes the PayPal buttons), the order amount clears PayPal's pending threshold (1 USD in the US, 1 GBP in the UK), Pay Later or PayPal Monthly buttons show only for shoppers in eligible countries and within PayPal's per-country amount ranges, recurring plans work only after Advanced Options are enabled on the PayPal account, and payments that sit in Pending resolve within 24 hours. PayPal webhooks and IPN are not part of this integration: Wix talks to PayPal directly and the merchant configures nothing on the PayPal Developer Dashboard.1

Wix lets a store take payments as authorize-then-capture instead of an immediate sale. That mode is not implemented for PayPal, and Wix does not warn per method: turning it on removes the PayPal buttons from the product, cart and checkout pages. If PayPal vanishes mid-UAT, check checkout payment settings before the connection. PayPal also cannot take deposits or partial payments through this connection.

A brand-new PayPal account goes through a review that Wix says can take up to 72 hours; an existing account must enable Advanced Options and grant Wix permission. Wix's pending-payment page lists Advanced Features being off as a reason recurring charges stall. Schedule this before the Pricing Plans test, not during it.

Wix's connect article says Pay Later varies by region and names the US, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Australia. PayPal's own Pay Later docs also list Canada, with per-country amount windows (for example Pay in 4 at 10 to 2,000 USD, Pay in 3 at 20 to 3,000 GBP). Buttons only appear to eligible shoppers, so a test cart outside the window shows no Pay Later button and nothing on the page explains why.

The Wix site currency must equal the PayPal account currency; Wix's converter only changes what shoppers see. Wix quotes no PayPal rate, only that fees vary by location. PayPal's US card gives 3.49% + 0.49 USD for PayPal Checkout and Venmo, 4.99% for Pay Later, 1.50% more on international transactions and 4.00% on conversion, and the original fee is kept when you refund.
