Braintree connects to a Wix site as a built-in third-party card provider: the merchant enters four live Braintree credentials under Accept Payments and Wix's own help center documents the connector, but only in a specific set of countries, only for one-time card payments (no recurring plans), and only as the site's single card processor.1

Testing it
There is no sandbox path on Wix. Wix rejects test or temporary provider credentials, so the Braintree sandbox Merchant ID and keys (which differ from production) cannot be connected; a verified production Braintree account is required. To exercise checkout without a charge, enable Wix's Manual (offline) payment method and place the order as the site owner, or duplicate the site. A real order through Braintree is charged, and the provider's fee applies. Assert on the Braintree Control Panel side: the transaction lands on the Merchant Account ID entered in Wix, in the same currency as the Wix account; then confirm whether a refund issued from the Wix dashboard reaches Braintree, since Wix only supports dashboard refunds for a subset of providers and otherwise expects the refund to be done in the provider's dashboard.10

Gotchas
Two Wix pages, two country lists
Wix publishes Braintree availability in two places and they disagree. The Braintree connector article lists 23 territories including Guernsey, Isle of Man, Jersey, Monaco and Poland; the country-by-country provider page omits those five but adds seven African countries (Botswana, Congo, Ethiopia, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Mauritius, South Africa). Check the dashboard for the site's actual country before promising a customer that Braintree will appear under Third-Party Credit/Debit Card Providers.
Braintree's own platform does subscriptions, but Wix does not expose them through this connector. Wix names Braintree explicitly as a provider that cannot take recurring payments, so Pricing Plans, Stores subscriptions and Recurring Invoices will not offer it. A site that needs subscriptions has to run them through Wix Payments, Stripe, PayPal or another provider on Wix's recurring list, which collides with the one-card-provider rule below.
Wix allows exactly one provider for credit and debit card processing. Connecting Braintree means Stripe, Square or Wix Payments cannot process cards on the same site; only alternative-method providers such as PayPal or crypto can sit alongside it. Switching later is a disconnect-and-reconnect in the dashboard, and refunds for orders already taken have to go back through whichever provider processed them.
Wix will not accept Braintree sandbox keys, and Braintree's sandbox Merchant ID and API keys are different from production anyway. The only way to exercise checkout without a live charge is Wix's Manual (offline) payment method, which never touches Braintree. The first real Braintree transaction is therefore a production transaction that costs the provider's fee. Wix lists test-credential support as an open feature request.
