Stripe connects to Squarespace Commerce from the Payments settings panel as one of the platform's built-in processors; Squarespace owns the integration and there is nothing to install. Squarespace charges its own transaction fee on top of Stripe's on lower plans, and several payment methods (ACH, SEPA, iDEAL) are reserved for Squarespace Payments.1
UAT-Ops testing: Stripe's sandbox was verified by UAT-Ops on 2026-09-11 with the directory's card flow (6 passed) → evidence on the Stripe hub. The Squarespace integration itself has not been run.
Sources checked: 20 claims from 4 sites, listed at the foot of the page.
Connects through Built-in processor option: open Payments settings, click Connect under Stripe, and sign in to an existing Stripe account or create one; Squarespace emails a confirmation. Biggest gotcha: Two fees on every Stripe order.
Testing it
Create a 14-day Squarespace trial (no card needed) and connect a Stripe account from Payments settings; a trial can only complete test orders. Switch on the Test mode toggle at the bottom of the Settings panel, then check out with 4242 4242 4242 4242, any future expiry and any 3-digit CVC. Test mode does not take the store offline (public visitors see checkout but cannot place real orders) and incurs no Stripe or Squarespace fees. PayPal has no test mode. Order-side webhooks come from Squarespace's Webhook Subscriptions API (OAuth-only, HMAC Squarespace-Signature header), not from Stripe; verify the Transactions API reports paymentGatewayName STRIPE and that refunds issued from the Orders panel surface in the Stripe dashboard with separate 'Stripe processing fee' and 'Squarespace application fees' line items.3
UAT-Ops runs integration flows like this against the real sandbox and keeps the evidence. Get one email when it opens.
Gotchas
Two fees on every Stripe order
Stripe is not the only fee. Squarespace's own transaction fee depends on which plan family your site is on: the current family, offered to new sites since February 2026, charges 2% on Basic and 0% on Core, Plus and Advanced; the previous-generation family, retained by existing customers, charges 3% on Business and 0% on the two Commerce plans. Digital products carry 7%/5%/1%/0% across Basic/Core/Plus/Advanced. In the Stripe dashboard each payment shows two lines, "Stripe processing fee" and "Squarespace application fees", because Squarespace collects its cut through Connect. On a refund Squarespace returns its fee pro rata; Stripe keeps its processing fee, for full and partial refunds alike.

Help-center pages disagree on Stripe's payment methods
The "Connect a payment processor" page says Stripe on Squarespace takes Klarna, Google Pay and Link; the "What payment methods can I accept" page lists Klarna only under Squarespace Payments and omits Google Pay from Stripe entirely. The dedicated Klarna and Google Pay articles side with the first page (both auto-enable for Stripe). Confirm on a test order, but treat ACH, SEPA and iDEAL as genuinely Squarespace Payments-only; no page grants them to Stripe.

One Stripe account per site, and disconnecting cancels subscriptions
Squarespace warns that attaching several Squarespace sites to one Stripe account can make Stripe drop the connection on one or more of them. Worse, subscription products live on the connection: disconnect Stripe and active subscriptions are cancelled, and connecting a different processor account forces every subscriber to re-subscribe. Reconnect the same Stripe account if you must disconnect, and never rotate the account to fix an unrelated issue.

Test mode does not take the store offline
Squarespace's test mode is a toggle at the bottom of the Settings panel. It routes checkout to Stripe test cards (4242 4242 4242 4242) with no fees, but a public site keeps showing checkout to real visitors, who then cannot place real orders. Run it on a trial site or an unpublished store. PayPal has no test mode at all, and a real-then-refunded test still costs the Stripe processing fee.

Refund from Squarespace, not from Stripe
Refunds for Stripe orders can only be issued from the Squarespace Orders panel; Squarespace explicitly advises against refunding in the processor dashboard because the two sides stop agreeing on order state. Partial refunds leave the order Pending or Fulfilled and do not restock inventory. If your reconciliation reads the Stripe API, expect the refund object to originate from Squarespace's Connect platform, not from anything your integration created.

Country availability is narrower than Stripe's own list
Squarespace points to stripe.com/global but carves out exceptions: merchants in Argentina, Colombia, Indonesia and South Africa cannot create a Stripe account for Squarespace even though those currencies are accepted, and Paystack-powered African Stripe accounts are unsupported. Settlement currency follows the Stripe account's bank country: Canadian accounts get CAD and USD only; Indian, Mexican and New Zealand accounts are single-currency.
