Yes. Square is one of BigCommerce's built-in gateways (Square Payments V2), which BigCommerce documents and sets up from Settings > Payments, and it serves stores in the US, Canada, the UK and Australia. Square is not an Embedded Payment Provider, though, so self-serve stores pay BigCommerce's Open Payment Provider Fee on Square orders, and Square does not offer Apple Pay or subscriptions on BigCommerce.1
Connects through Built-in control-panel gateway (Square Payments V2): Settings > Payments, Open tab, Online Payment Methods, Set up next to Square, then Connect Square Account (sign-in to the Square seller account). Biggest gotcha: Square orders pay BigCommerce's outside-gateway fee.

Capability status reflects the integration and documentation available at the time of verification, not necessarily every capability of the underlying gateway or platform.
BigCommerce's Square article describes no sandbox or test-mode toggle for the Square gateway; setup is a sign-in connection to a Square seller account. BigCommerce sandbox stores (from the Partner Portal) cannot process live transactions, and the server-side Payments API does not support BigCommerce's Test Payment Gateway, so API-driven tests need a real gateway. Square's own Sandbox rejects real cards and accepts test values such as Visa 4111 1111 1111 1111 with CVV 111, CVV 911 for a CVV failure, postal code 99999 for a postcode failure, and 4000000000000002 for a decline. Assert that the store currency matches the Square account, that CVV and postcode failures block checkout, that an Authorize Only order is captured within 7 days, and that a refund is issued within the 60-day window.1

Square is built into the control panel, but it is not on BigCommerce's Embedded Payment Provider list. Since 1 June 2026, self-serve stores pay a monthly Open Payment Provider Fee on the GMV of orders paid through Square: 2.0% on Core, 1.0% on Growth and 0.6% on Scale. That sits on top of Square's own processing rate, so on Core a Square order costs about two points more than the same order through Stripe or Braintree.

Square supports wallets on its own products, but BigCommerce's Apple Pay article does not include Square among its supported gateways, which is enough to call Apple Pay unsupported here. Square community staff said in a 2019 forum post that the BigCommerce integration offers no way to accept Google Pay either, and that Square doesn't control which payment options BigCommerce exposes, but a five-year-old forum post is the only source for that half of the claim, so the capability table records Google Pay as not verified rather than a flat no. Merchants who need wallets usually add a second provider next to Square.

On BigCommerce, Square covers only AUD, CAD, GBP and USD stores, fewer than the eight countries Square's APIs support. The Square seller account's currency must match the store's payment currency before you connect. CVV and ZIP/postcode checks are mandatory on every transaction and cannot be relaxed, so mismatched billing postcodes turn into failed checkouts rather than review queues.

If you choose Authorize Only, each order has to be captured within seven days or the authorization expires. Refunds through the integration must be issued within 60 days of the original charge, which is much shorter than the one-year window in Square's own Refunds API. Recurring and subscription payments are not supported, so a subscription app needs a different gateway.

A custom checkout built on the Checkout SDK needs version 1.309.0 or later (published in November 2022) for Square Payments V2, so older forks of checkout-js must be upgraded. Server-side, the Payments API charges Square v2 stored instruments only, never raw card data, and cannot use BigCommerce's Test Payment Gateway. That leaves a Square test setup as the only way to exercise the API end to end.
